Woman arrested for calling ex-husband a Boko Haram member

Policemen from Ipaja Police Station have arrested Afolakemi Mojisola Adeniyi, a 23 year-old mother of one for calling her ex-husband a Boko Haram member on Facebook. She was arrested after a complaint lodged by her ex-husband Alfar Umar Gobir that she had posted his picture on Facebook and tagged him a member of the Boko Haram sect at the Ipaja Police Station.


Umar told the police that throughout the weekend, he received countless calls from friends and associates querying him on why he joined the sect and as it was strange and unbelievable he kept telling them that it was mistaken identity , not him. That was until one of them told him to check his fb page.

Umar was shocked when he logged into Facebook and found his picture with the words written below: "This is a Boko Haram member, whenever you see him, bomb him." Umar acted swiftly by going to her place and reporting her to her parents at Ipaja.

His ex-wife confirmed it and she added that she did it because he said she and her child would die.The parents begged for her to be forgiven but a few hours later she went ahead a posted another on facebook saying she did not regret her action.This lead to her arrest.

She and her parents have been adviced by the DPO Titilaya Segun to go beg Umar for forgiveness after for te sake of their child, stating that will the evidence, she would go to jail if the complainant insist on going to court.

Umar told the police that he is yet to decide whether to take his ex-wife to court, adding that he needed to consult his family over the matter.
