This is a short play from Amaka Igwe and believe me, its the bomb. It was produced in 2001 and i cant believe i am just seeing it. There is a tight hold on this movie and so you cant see it anywhere online or even in the Nigerian market. Amaka Igwe is also the producer of the award winning soap opera Checkmate. Alot of popular Nollywood artists started up from there. She is on my A-list of producers.
The movie that featured stars like Justus Esiri, Hilda Dokubo, Foluke Daramola and others had the cinematography done by Tunde Kelani himself.Seriously i fell in-love with Justus Esiri a 100% more (making it 200% now). He looked just like a lovable stubborn old man with a huge sense of humor.
Justus Esiri played the part of Amaduo, a generally good-natured retired military man now turned barber whose business has run into hard times. Disturbed by his dependence on his wife Stella (Hilda Dokubo) who sells roast fish, Amaduo travels to the city in order to learn new tricks to make his barbers shop generate more revenue to take care of his family.
He returns from the city intent on changing the whole village by bringing in the modern lifestyle he saw in the city. And his game plan? Attracting a new market – young, hip-hop loving, fashionable teenage boys to his shop!As an added attraction, he dresses his two teenage daughters in the latest fashions and make-up to attract new male customers. Very soon Amaduo’s salon soars in popularity. Thrilled with his newfound business success, he ignores Stella’s fears until one night a terrible nightmare sets him wondering just how valuable his success really is.
This movie takes us back to the eighties and allows us see the changes that has been wrought by modern life. The fashion is so hilarous and at first glance it looks like a film shot in SA or other countries. But it is purely Naija and i am proud that our very own Amaka Igwe did this. Seriously people, you should watch this movie. If i can lay my hands on this movie, i will surely upload it and let you guys know where to watch it.
